Elmo Surprise Cake

ELMO Surprise Cake
This is one of my favourite 3D cake. It's a simple yet so fun looking cake with Elmo bursting through the cake.

The making of Elmo is fun and easy. You just require the above shape of fondant pieces, a lollipop stick and a grass pipping tip. To create the fur texture, simply twists the tip lightly on the fondant. After attaching the head to the body, add the eyes and nose followed by placing small black fondants into the mouth and smooth it out. Next, prepare the hand (with fur texture) and attach it to the body with spaghetti stick.

Making of the cake burst open effect (left to right):
1. Prepare a chocolate ganache cake
2. Cut out fondant the same size of your cake top. Prepare a circle parchment paper of the burst out width. Slit the fondant 4 times equally across each slit in the middle.
3.Place the circle parchment paper in the middle of the cake top and stick the fondant to the cake over the parchment paper.
4. Open the slit and gently pull out the parchment paper.
5. Wrap the side of your cake and cut away excess.
6. Prepare coloured fondant: roll out flat and cut 45 degree angle triangle. This will match the top of the burst out pieces.
7. Stick alternate triangles of different colours to the tip of the burst out.
8. Prepare the name tag and the colourful balls
9.Finish off the Base.
Finally, place your Elmo on top and add m&m's on the area where the chocolate ganache is visible.

Safari Themed Cake

SAFARI FONDANT CAKE
My nephew's 2-tiers safari cake for his birthday celebration in school. He love animals, so my sis requested me to design an animal themed, not forgetting his favourite Rio character, Blu.

These partial 2D/3D animals is much easier to make compared to a full 3D, yet still looked cute and real on the cake.
Fondant Elephant
Fondant Lion
Fondant Giraffe
This comes the most difficult part, the making of Blu. As I don't have royal blue colouring, I tried mixing purple with sky blue and the result was great. In my 1st attempt, I wasn't satisfied with the look. It just doesn't look like Blu. Not giving up, I tried again on the next day and it was a success! This was the 2nd attempt.
Fondant Blu in Rio
After done with the key figurines, below were other accessories that I needed to prepare. To achieve a safari look, I created a woody-look No. 3 and "Lewei".
For the base,  I started with the dark chocolate ganache frosted cake before adding random white fondant stripes for the top tier and green fondant stripes for the bottom tier. The purpose of not designing a fully covered fondant cake is not to cover the tasty chocolate.
And, here's my cute nephew at the celebration in school. Happy 3rd Birthday Lewei!

Arts & Baker Fondant Figurine

Arts & Baker Fondant Figurine
This figurine represent myself and my passion for baking. I love arts and I love to bake, this is how Arts & Baker was form.
Started with the above coloured fondant.

Forming round balls attached to a lollipop stick. Followed by adding eyes, neck and body.
Adding ruffle laces to create a nice girly skirt. Outfits completed with a pinkish apron.
I started off with the base for the hair before adding fringe and ponytails.
Hand and accessories need to be dried before attaching to the figurine.

The making of the miniature tier cake started off with 4 different sized flatten fondant balls with added on coloured "frosting". Stack the cake alternately with base and frosting.
The drying process took a few days. Both hands were supported with lollipop stick to hold them in place fall before it dried completely.

Cute Eiffel Tower Cake

Eiffel Tower Cake
When I first posted my Paris theme cake, I received a quite a number of enquiries on my handmade Eiffel tower. I was so surprised with this order as it was meant for my friend 's 2 yr old daughter's birthday. First question that came to mind is:" is it her mum who loves Eiffel tower?" Haha...
AND I got the answer "my daughter loves Eiffel tower , yellow colour and balloon!"
GOOD TASTE Stacy! Here's the yellow cake with balloon, Eiffel Tower and little Stacy and her little brother fondant figurine that symbolise their sibling loves!
For a cuter and sweeter look, I decide to pipe Ruffle laces buttercream at the side of the cake before covering it with fondant quilt top.

This was the 3rd time "building" the Eiffel tower, and it got better each time.
Follow me on the upcoming post on the making of Eiffel tower.

Mickey Mouse Fondant Cake

MICKEY MOUSE FONDANT CAKE
I was so excited when I got this order request as this special birthday cakes was meant for a twins (my sis' colleague). The 2 cakes were a last-min order and I had another 3 orders to fulfil in that 3 days! On top of that, she also ordered another 30 decorated cookies to share with the lovely twins' friends!
She requested to have 2 different cake designs which must be suitable for both boy and girl.
So I planned to have the mickey & minnie and peppa pig.
Mickey Mouse cookies
Here's the matching cookies with fondant. Normally I like to use royal icing. This was my first try using fondant which turned out so good! Dried fondant adds crispiness to the cookies! And I need not wait for the base layer to dry before adding other deco!
Tips: roll the fondant thinner for better taste.
I packed these cookies at 3am. Little Jayden woke up, walked out into the living room, stood beside the table and watched me packing the cookies with his sleepy face. He then pulled my hand to go back to sleep with him. It was such a lovely scene which I could never forget.
Mission Accomplished!

FLOWER THEMED CAKE

Flower Theme Fondant Cake
Recent Mother's Day order, requested by my friend who wanted a cake with flowers, butterflies and hearts. So I planned to do something not too complicated yet come with a happy looking garden feel.

I started with making fondant roses. I used a stripe of fondant and rolled over the edge to create a natural look. I discovered the easiest way is to use a toothpick and not with a the ball tools! Next, just roll over with the thicker end and press firmly. (If fondant is too dry, water is required to stick the ends together). Next, lightly pull the petals apart and arrange according to the look you like. Lastly, for drying, I always like to use aluminium foil as a holder/stand to dry the small fondants.

I am glad that the flower cutters which I ordered from Qoo10 arrived just in time for me to make these lovely flowers. These cutters really helped me to shape the flowers with much ease. Similarly I dried these cut flowers by placing them on cone-shaped aluminium foils to create a 3D looking flower.

The alphabet press set is handy when you need to create letters in small area. Its about 0.7cm height.

I wanted to create a simple but sweet looking flower cake, so I though of having a white wooden fence. With the ribbon cutter, I shaped the fence top, followed by adding the wooden feel texture using the shell tools. The effect was great!
I started with crumb coated chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. Final frosting of chocolate ganache was set firmly in room temperature before I placed the fence stripes side by side.
For the top, I left it with dome shape chocolate ganache as anyway it will be covered with flower later on. Lastly the ribbon was added to the bottom. It looked so sweet.
