Elmo Surprise Cake

ELMO Surprise Cake
This is one of my favourite 3D cake. It's a simple yet so fun looking cake with Elmo bursting through the cake.

The making of Elmo is fun and easy. You just require the above shape of fondant pieces, a lollipop stick and a grass pipping tip. To create the fur texture, simply twists the tip lightly on the fondant. After attaching the head to the body, add the eyes and nose followed by placing small black fondants into the mouth and smooth it out. Next, prepare the hand (with fur texture) and attach it to the body with spaghetti stick.

Making of the cake burst open effect (left to right):
1. Prepare a chocolate ganache cake
2. Cut out fondant the same size of your cake top. Prepare a circle parchment paper of the burst out width. Slit the fondant 4 times equally across each slit in the middle.
3.Place the circle parchment paper in the middle of the cake top and stick the fondant to the cake over the parchment paper.
4. Open the slit and gently pull out the parchment paper.
5. Wrap the side of your cake and cut away excess.
6. Prepare coloured fondant: roll out flat and cut 45 degree angle triangle. This will match the top of the burst out pieces.
7. Stick alternate triangles of different colours to the tip of the burst out.
8. Prepare the name tag and the colourful balls
9.Finish off the Base.
Finally, place your Elmo on top and add m&m's on the area where the chocolate ganache is visible.
